Human Rights Watch ("HRW") is an international human rights monitoring and advocacy organization known for its in-depth investigations, its incisive and timely reporting, its innovative and high-profile advocacy campaigns, and its success in changing the human rights-related policies and practices of influential governments and international institutions.

Description:

The Administrator will provide administrative, financial, and personnel support to HRW's local staff, and the Operations department, based in New York.

Support for local staff will include, but is not limited to, administrative support (scheduling internal and external meetings, taking minutes, making travel arrangements, formatting and disseminating press releases and other publications, project management, recruiting and coordinating interns); external communications (responding to inquiries from and corresponding with the public, media, NGOs); gift processing; event planning; researching prospects; and clerical tasks (filing, photocopying, faxing, word processing, maintaining databases, contact lists and subscriptions, bulk mailings, report filing and tracking).

Operations responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working in conjunction with the New York headquarters-based Operations Departments in the areas of Finance (managing budgets and bank accounts, processing payroll, paying bills, and handling monthly accounting activities); Information Technology (maintaining and trouble-shooting the computer network, providing helpdesk support to local staff, and handling system back-ups and upgrades when necessary); Human Resources (supporting personnel administration, compensation and benefits, and local statutory requirements); and Administration and Facilities (handling reception duties, attendance tracking, general facilities maintenance, office supplies and stock, and answering general post, email and telephone inquiries).

Qualifications:

The candidate must be self motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial, and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. He or she must be willing to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. Strong interest in international human rights as well as a degree in International Relations and/or relevant regional or thematic study or experience are highly desirable. The candidate must have solid office/administration experience, demonstrated organizational skills, and excellent computer skills, including a proficiency in Raiser's Edge. The candidate must have excellent written and spoken communications skills in English; fluency in other languages is a plus.
