The Wellesley Institute is pleased to announce three summer 2007 positions for graduate students interested in working on urban health issues. Deadline for applications is April 2, 2007.

Non-Profit Sector Capacity Building Position
Wellesley is currently seeking a graduate student to assist the Director of Capacity Building for the summer. We welcome applications from Masters or Ph.D students with an interest in urban health.

Qualifications:

Strong analytical skills
Familiarity with training, adult learning and the non-profit sector
Graduate course-work in qualitative and / or quantitative research methods
A solid understanding of how to gather and synthesize published and grey literature
Self-motivated worker who enjoys a collaborative fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Duties:

1- General Leadership Program:

Develop an annotated web based resource library for the Capacity Building program, based on materials provided. (No technical web skills required.)
Prepare document synopses
Review literature for additional materials for the online library resource
2- Executive Leadership Program:

Assist in analysis of participant feedback on a leadership program for executives in the not-for-profit sector.
Modify and adapt the current leadership program to incorporate findings from a program evaluation

3- Blueprint for more Effective Collaboration in the NPO sector

Collate and summarize data from a number of projects
Participate in organizing research events
Participate in analysis and writing of the Blueprint.
Duration and Remuneration

This is a full-time position for up to 15 weeks. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible. Rate of pay is negotiable depending on the candidate's qualifications, up to $7,500 for the period.

Research and Public Policy Position

Wellesley is currently seeking a student to assist the Directors of Public Policy and Research for the summer. We welcome applications from Masters or Ph.D students with an interest in urban health.

Qualifications:

Graduate work in qualitative and / or quantitative research methods and /or program evaluation
Strong analytical skills
Solid experience in preparing literature reviews from grey and refereed literature
Self-motivated, self-directing worker who enjoys a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional assets:

Graduate level experience in health public policy
Understanding of recent trends in health system transformation
Understanding of the social determinants of health and urban health research
Duties:

Undertake or participate in literature reviews on specific topics related to health of marginalized and vulnerable populations, health system reform, and equitable access to health and social services.

Possible topics:

policy supports to not-for-profit community health and social services
community engagement in health system planning
managed competition in health care services
homelessness and mental health
refugee health
cultural competency in health care services
Draft policy backgrounders and facts sheets on selected topics
Assist in policy analyses on selected topics
Assist in environmental scans of community-based service sector on specific issues
Participate in data gathering and analysis on selected research projects
Duration and Remuneration

Assist the Project Leader, St. James Town Healthy Immigrant Study Position

Wellesley Institute is currently seeking a summer student to assist the Project Leader, St. James Town Healthy Immigrant Study. We welcome application from graduate students who are residents of St. James Town, Toronto, and are interested in full time summer employment with an interest in newcomer/immigrant health.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate course-work in quantitative research methods
Strong analytical skills
Proficiency in computer applications including use of the Internet, word processing, and spreadsheet packages
Solid experience in preparing literature reviews from published and unpublished sources
Self-motivated, self directing worker who enjoys a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional Assets:

Some training in mapping software application desirable
Some experience in compiling health related information using various sources
Understanding of social determinants of health and urban health research
Duties:

Collate and summarize available data, information, graphs etc. on St. James Town and newcomer health
Develop web-based resource library for St. James Town Healthy Immigrant Project (No technical web skills required)
Perform any other related tasks
Duration and Remuneration:

This is a full-time summer internship position that will offer compensation for three months. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible. Rate of pay is negotiable depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
